The proposed UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve area is situated west of Colenso, approximately 20 to 25 km south-southwest of Ladysmith in KwaZulu Natal South Africa. The western- and eastern-most boundaries of the area lie at the approximate longitudes of 29° 38’ E and 29° 47’ E respectively. The northern- and southern-most boundaries of the area lie at the approximate latitudes of 28° 41’ 30” S and 28° 45’ 30” S respectively.

It is bounded in the west by the N3 National Road and in the north-east by the Provincial Road, P1, which runs between Colenso and Ladysmith.
